Each Meditation is Different.
Meditation is a “happening” rather than a “thing you do”. Each meditation will be unique and different just as you are in each evolving moment. You're really just learning to listen and surrender to that evolution within you and feel what is calling to be felt.
We’ve literally helped thousands of people learn how to meditate and it is at its best, like most things, when it’s kept nice and simple. Basically you're taking a break from you so you can make space to fill back up with the larger part of you, the “soul” part.
Connecting to this soul part of ourselves through meditation makes life so much easier as we can begin to trust our own instinctual processes again - we are confident that we can decide what is good for us and what is not.
You see...with our minds softer and more relaxed we can donate more of our feelings to our bodies and begin to “hear” again the whispers and echoes of our own inner divine wisdom
That’s why it chills people out - because the soul knows everything is always
A-OK :-)
The “act” of meditation can be pretty loosely described as bringing your awareness and feeling to your “aliveness”. It doesn’t take an idea, a tradition, a concept or even words to feel and experience life.
Life, like you, just simply IS and the key to opening both you and your life up is by firstly “accepting yourself as and where you are” and secondly “letting go” so that what no longer needs to be carried by you can fade away peacefully.
We are our own world and life is lived best from your own direct experience and not through other people's ideas, opinions or judgements. Meditation helps us turn down the volume of this white noise and get back to enjoying what is “real” and what really is important to us.
The benefits of meditation are pretty impressive….
Contentment, increased focus, compassion, clearer decision making, decrease in stress levels, improved cognition and thinking capacity, improved access to intuitive/flow states, less likely to shout at the kids, more likely to remember that thing you always forget, more likely to be kind to yourself inside your head instead of mean!
But why is that?
Thoughts follow one another, meaning it’s a like for like kinda game. Get on a spiral of negative thinking and you're going to manifest a spiral of a hundred more negative thoughts to spiral on down with. Of course the same is true positively the other way.
How do we break the cycle and how do we notice earlier when the scales are starting to tip and course correct our thinking.
Thoughts HAPPEN - you can’t stop them once you’ve had them.
It’s how we respond to them that makes the difference, that is the magic building that little window of response millisecond by millisecond.
Sure meditation is super enjoyable and relaxing when you get into it but I look at it like this…
I want to meditate and practice/enjoy being “cool” with myself, my thoughts and accepting of my being because I want to live that way in life. This is because I want to “see” the world clearly and not have the ramblings of self doubt or judgement echoing and/or even worse me giving those silly voices more airtime than they need.
In many ways those voices are not silly at all and a massive gift as they are always pointing us in the direction of what we desire. For example feelings such as jealousy, shame, anger and resentment often fill us with shame for even feeling them at all. If you are jealous about something or of someone...what is that trying to tell you about what you want for yourself.
This is why meditation is a core component of the skill set we teach those that choose to heal with us. Each of us has our own tastes and what works for us and this also changes over a lifetime. Emotional literacy is the name of the game here - meditation helps you understand your own emotions better and opens you up (without feeling triggered/challenged) to the numerous ways in which we can understand the emotions of others.
It allows you to be more potent as a conscious creator and more decisive about the life you want to create. Seeing past the voices and realising they are merely a “part” of the enormous spiritual being that you are makes it easier to choose which one’s to amplify.
Meaning when you're on a good vibe you can sing it from the rooftops!
Equally, when you’re feeling tender you permit yourself to feel this way, you have the discipline to get what needs to be done - done. Yet you also have the kindness and self-compassion to allow yourself to simply “be”, to not pressure yourself to be a different way and thus nature can take its course. Maybe you allow yourself to rest, maybe in that stillness you find the strength and clarity to leave an awful situation.
If you wanted a glass of water right now...the thought would come first. It always does. The thought comes, and your mind is already at the tap pouring water - your body then follows suit. So many things we take for granted go on underneath the bonnet of our conscious mind meaning we only have to desire the water and it is so, as all the “reactions” are well rehearsed walking, where the glass is etc.
Sometimes reactions and well rehearsed patterns of behaviour stick around longer than we would like them too.
Meditation is one of the best remedies for anxiety because it gives us space to let go and put down our usual reactional self. You may have experienced at some point in your life a feeling like you were not in control of your mind and reactions. When we are like this we are running on auto-pilot trying to frantically plot a course to safety.
When we practice through meditation self-acceptance and taking a step back from our thoughts we can learn not to identify so easily with our thoughts.
We can steadily learn to create our life from a place that is free to dream in the present, drawing upon the past for knowledge and wisdom but never bound to repeat it.
The future is always new - if we can learn to let it BE.
